Under a Honey Dipped Moon
I dreamt we gave birth to a luna moth.
Outside, it was raining
and the entire middle class kneeled
with cupped hands to drink
the only freshwater left on Earth.
The storm intensified, shaking our window
so hard it broke into a light
that wrapped itself around our wings.
Imbibed, we flew out over Orange Avenue
becoming the honey dipped moon
that turned rain gold. We could all
afford to pay our debts.
Back at our apartment, the glow
of a waning crescent body was cast
on our sheets, where warmth rose and fell
with the rhythm of the rattling branches.
